Prince Edward Island Travel Guide
There’s no better time to start planning your trip to Prince Edward Island. Whether you’re eager to walk along the red sand beaches, explore the island’s rich literary history, or simply relax in a seaside village, let this guide be your companion as you explore a place where beauty, culture, and community come together.
Canada's Food Island: A Collection of Stories and Recipes from Prince Edward Island
Canada's Food Island combines nearly 100 inspired seasonal recipes with homegrown stories and beautiful photographs to capture the essence of the island's unique food culture - a blend of people, place and locally sourced fresh natural ingredients.
Celebrate the Island's farm-to-table cooking and meet the farmers, fishers and artisans who make those delicious dishes possible. From preparing the perfect lobster roll in spring and galettes filled with sweet fresh-picked strawberries in summer to making savory potato pizza in fall and roast turkey with an oyster, bacon and wild mushroom stuffing in mid-winter.
Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants
In a rich braid of reflections that range from the creation of Turtle Island to the forces that threaten its flourishing today, Robin circles toward a central argument: that the awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. For only when we can hear the languages of other beings will we be capable of understanding the generosity of the earth, and learn to give our own gifts in return.
Anne of Green Gables
First published in 1908, this heartwarming story has beckoned generations of readers into the special world of Green Gables, an old-fashioned farm outside a town called Avonlea. Anne Shirley, an eleven-year-old orphan, has arrived in this verdant corner of Prince Edward Island only to discover that the Cuthberts—elderly Matthew and his stern sister, Marilla—want to adopt a boy, not a feisty redheaded girl.
The Seamstress of Acadie
As 1754 is drawing to a close, tensions between the French and the British on Canada's Acadian shore are reaching a fever pitch. Seamstress Sylvie Galant and her family--French-speaking Acadians wishing to remain neutral--are caught in the middle, their land positioned between two forts flying rival flags. Amid preparations for the celebration of Noël, the talk is of unrest, coming war, and William Blackburn, the British Army Ranger raising havoc across North America's borderlands.

Enthusiastic and caring support team: Derrick as leader, Randy as support vehicle, Robert in bike van, Eduardo as sweep. Beautiful landscapes, some great meals and interesting programming, including baking bannock (a type of biscuit) at one historical site! Very basic e-bikes, some needing adjustment. More time than expected on two-lane roads with cars and no shoulder. (I caught a ride for these sections of road, which was most helpful.) Charlottetown, where we started and finished was lovely.

Prince Edward Island was a charming place to ride a bicycle. The riding was split between shared roads and dedicated rail trails with safety a consideration for the riders. Don't miss this trip and consider riding a non-electric bike.
— Review left August 24, 2024
The older reviews were extremely helpful to me in planning for this program. Highly recommend getting the Ebike as the island is very windy and there are some hills. 15 out of 18 guests/riders had an Ebike, and as others have mentioned, the Ebikers frequently did have to wait for the non E bikers to catch up. The accommodations were acceptable, and some places there just wasn’t the availability of great accommodations for a group this size. I was aware of this before the trip and so I was not surprised. I thought the meals were excellent. Our guide Derrick was fantastic, the lectures were very informative, and Cameron is a great storyteller. I had a fantastic time on this trip and highly recommend this trip to anyone that is an avid biker.

A very enjoyable trip. Cycling routes were varied, among green and golden fields and along the coast; all the stops/field trips/lectures were interesting. Leaders -- Derrick, Robert, and Anais -- were extremely helpful; they took advantage of unexpected opportunities, like the chance to sample local strawberries, and they accommodated individual needs within our group. This was my husband's and my first cycling trip with e-bikes -- highly recommend!

Randy Allain is a fabulous leader! He is skilled, organized, caring and passionate about sharing the incredible beauty and fascinating history of his beloved Prince Edward Island.
— Review left September 2, 2022
Fantastic trip - stunning vistas, challenging cycling, knowledgeable and personable host, good educational presentations (they offer a wide range of presentations) and a good group of new friends. This is my favorite of the 5 Road Scholar bike trips I have taken. But DO NOT underestimate the hills - unless you are an outstanding, well-conditioned cyclist, opt for the e-bike. You will thank me later!
— Review left September 1, 2022
Overall a great trip. I would recommend that educational talks be at lunch rather than after breakfast as all anxious to start riding the bikes. Especially when weather is more favorable in the morning, spending over an hour listening to history was not desirable.
I suggest that all bike fittings should happen the night prior to start of the trip. Some were delayed to the first day of the ride and caused delay in starting out.
As most participants chose e-bikes, those pedaling under their own power caused frustration for themselves as well as others. Again causing a lot of waiting around as those slower riders needed to catch up. It is apparent that e-bikes are becoming most popular, therefore the trip should only provide e-bikes where all have ability to stay in a group whether they choose to use power or not.
The dinner on the last night should start earlier due to a number of guests moving on to the Confederation Center for the musical production. Dinner as planned was rushed or not eaten at all.
Randy did a very good job at keeping the group safe . He spent time checking in with each participant to get to know them and to see how they were doing.
The Pownal hotel was quite good but the others, not so much, like Stanley Bridge Resort.. I understand there are limited options on the island but perhaps some other lodging exists or maybe a route variation could give access to other hotels.
Richard and Robert providing bike support were very pleasant and helpful.

Everything as advertised!

PEIIs a great place to explore on a bicycle, preferably an e bike, so you have enough energy to enjoy the evenings. The people are courteous, the scenery is gorgeous, and the support staff are always helpful. A lovely way to spend a week.
— Review left August 17, 2022
My husband and I just finished the 6 day biking tour guided by Randy Allain. We enjoyed the tour tremendously. Randy sent every daily biking route in detail. During biking stops, we had a music show, museum visit and a guided national park walk with a park Ranger. We also had two historian presentations.
Randy is a devoted guide who biked back and forth with the group to take care of every biker's needs.
— Review left July 20, 2022
We enjoyed our trip through PEI especially the leader, Ken, who is experienced in biking and knows the island well. We arrived soon after Dorian swept through and Ken had to make many adjustments to the plan. He was great on communication and plans and we were able to eat inside on several rainy days. The biking was challenging at times, on narrow two lane roads with cars as some other roads were closed because of fallen trees. We would definitely recommend this trip to experienced cyclists!
