Dinner: Dinner will be (catered in by local restaurant) at the hotel at 6:00pm. (There will be a vegetarian option available for you if you note a vegetarian preference on your Health & Safety form.)

Evening: ORIENTATION: Begins at 5:00pm in our private meeting room. We'll have an overview of the program ahead and review the up-to-date schedule, responsibilities, safety, guidelines, emergency procedures, and any other administrative issues. Introduction to theatre/Intro to two plays that will be seen during the week/Matinee "Glengarry Glen Ross."

Note: All classes in the morning are at the hotel. When attending the theatre the bus will drop participants off in front of theatre and will pick up in front of the theatre. For the evening meal participants ride a bus to a local restaurant.

Please make your dinner reservations for a restaurant on St. Armands Circle on the assigned evening. A St. Armands Circle website is listed in your welcome packet and coordinator/hosts have copies of menus at the program.

Afternoon: Matinee "Glengarry Glen Ross," by David Mamet and directed by Carl Forsman at the Asolo Theatre.

David Mamet’s scalding comedy/drama tackles one of the most elusive topics in all of American literature: the pursuit of the American dream. A contemporary classic that became a celebrated film, this 1984 Pulitzer Prize-winner examines a group of cutthroat Chicago real estate agents who will do anything to close the deal. With a gift for natural dialogue and a realistic portrayal of these men’s struggles, Mamet creates “crackling tension...ferocious comedy and drama” (New York Times). Contains strong/mature language.

Day at Ringling Museum Complex/Play readers from the Asolo Theatre Guild will perform a private reading for participants in the evening.

Note: The Ringling Complex: To see everything there is a lot of walking, however, there are plenty of benches to rest on and you can explore at your own pace or with the group. For the evening meal participants ride a bus to a local restaurant. The play reading will take place at the hotel.

Morning: FIELD TRIP: to the Ringling Museum Complex. A local expert takes you through Ca' d'Zan, (house of John) the Ringlings' magnificent, 32-room Venetian-Gothic mansion. See "Tibbals Learning Center," featuring Howard Brothers Miniature Circus. Next see the Circus Museum displays of memorabilia and artifacts from the long and eventful history of the Ringling Bros.

Lunch: Luncheon will be at the Ringling Museum's "Treviso," an Italian restaurant.

Afternoon: Enjoy the architectural elements of the Art Museum, focus of the collection; Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces and the collecting style of John Ringling. At your leisure explore the gardens and grounds given to the people of Florida, thus preserving for generations to come the exuberant lifestyle of America's spectacular Roaring Twenties. The beautiful landscaped grounds contain over 400 species of exotic Florida trees, plants, flowers, sculpture garden figures and Mable's historic rose garden.

SPECIAL EXHIBITION: Ending 4/14/13 Paolo Veronese is acknowledged as one of the giants of Venetian Renaissance painting. His artistic production was richly varied, extending from imposing altarpieces to smaller religious paintings for private clients, from grand portraits to sensual episodes drawn from the classical tradition. Veronese was also an outstanding draughtsman, and his graphic oeuvre ranged from preliminary sketches to highly finished chiaroscuro sheets. A foreigner in Venice, he created paintings for Venetian clients and settings, as well for the mainland and export abroad. Thus, Veronese's art was unusually versatile for its time.

This magnificent exhibition will display this extraordinary versatility and examine Veronese's artistic practice, concentrating on works from North American collections. For a sixteenth-century painter, many of whose works are in fresco or on enormous canvases still in situ, Veronese is unusually broadly represented in North America. At the same time, the broad spectrum of Veronese as a painter and draughtsman has not been available to American audiences in over two decades. This exhibition is a major contribution to Veronese studies. Focusing attention on both little-known works as well as acknowledged masterpieces, it will discuss Veronese's complicated chronology, his artistic process, technical discoveries, and issues of attribution, as well as exploring his depictions of sumptuous fabrics in his paintings.

Afternoon: PRESENTATION: When available we have a clown that gives an overview of clowning and circus history in Sarasota. He was the former Dean of Clown College here in Sarasota. Participate in balancing feathers, juggling etc.

OPTIONAL DVD PRESENTATION: Cecil B DeMille's "The Greatest Show On Earth," filmed in Sarasota. Featuring Betty Hutton, Charlton Heston and James Stewart.

Relax the rest of the afternoon.

Note: The Asolo Theatre backstage visit moves at a moderate pace and participants can take the elevator or the stairs to see the costume shop. Bus will drop off participants at St. Armands Circle for dinner on your own, some restaurants are close to the drop off point and some are up to a 1/2 of a mile away round trip walking. When attending the theatre the bus will drop participants off in front of theatre and will pick up in front of the theatre.

Morning: FIELD TRIP: Go-behind-the-scenes at the Asolo Theatre for a back-stage look at the workings of the theatre, including the costume shop.

Lunch: Enjoy a box lunch at the Asolo Theatre and a staff person from the Asolo with give you more insight into the theatre.

Afternoon: Free afternoon.

Dinner: Dinner on your own to enjoy Florida cuisine with transportation provided. A bus will depart for St. Armands Circle, renowned as a continental marketplace. The Circle is a charming and graceful synthesis of past and present. Relax and enjoy a meal from a plethora of award winning restaurants; from gourmet snacks to candlelit feasts, you'll find it all on St. Armands Circle. Get out of the box and into the Circle.

Evening: PERFORMANCE: Attend an evening performance of "The Heidi Chronicles," by Wendy Wasserstein and directed by Laura Kepley at the Asolo Theatre.

Lunch: A box lunch is offered on Fridays to allow students who need to catch an early flight to take their lunch with them. Students who do not need to leave can enjoy their lunch in the lobby area or on the patio by the pool. Program ends after lunch.
