Road Scholar: Taking Care of our Worldwide Classroom

As stewards of our planet, we are acutely aware of the urgent realities of climate change and its profound impact on the places we hold dear. At Road Scholar, safeguarding our global classroom for future generations is paramount. That's why we're charting a course toward sustainability, embarking on a journey of our own.

São Miguel Island, Portugal

While we have taken strides to offset the carbon footprint of our air travel in recent years (and will continue to do that), we're thrilled to deepen our commitment to protecting the environment and have ingrained these values into our organizational culture. From reducing waste to forging partnerships with eco-conscious partners, we are on a mission to integrate sustainable practices into every aspect of what we do. Behind the scenes, our team is working to minimize our environmental footprint, and you'll witness these efforts starting on Road Scholar programs in 2025 — whether it's a reduction in single-use plastics or an emphasis on locally sourced cuisine.

But our journey extends beyond environmental initiatives; it encompasses the social wellbeing of the communities we visit as well. By placing equal importance on people and planet, we maximize our impact, ensuring no one is left behind. And throughout these efforts, rest assured that our dedication to providing exceptional educational experiences remains the same.

How can you contribute now? Start by packing your reusable water bottle and embracing local artisans and eateries during your free time on Road Scholar programs. Engage with communities to understand their climate challenges and opportunities firsthand.

Join us as we navigate this transformative journey toward sustainability. Together, let's continue exploring, learning and preserving our precious planet — one adventure at a time. We’ll be sure to share our progress along the way, so you can feel good knowing your friends at Road Scholar care about protecting the environment as much as you do.
